Algae in Our Cosmetics

Despite their unappealing appearance, algae are superstars in the fields of organic cosmetics and beauty. And for good reason: their varieties and virtues are countless!

Let's shed some light on these treasures of the sea.

The sea 🌊 and its components are rich in trace elements and minerals, which are both necessary and beneficial for our well-being, our bodies, and our skin. Among its treasures ✨: algae! These rootless and leafless plants and plant elements 🌱 are unique and number in the thousands of species in the world's oceans. Highly resistant to the variable conditions of their environment (water temperature, UV exposure, etc.), algae offer an impressive range of beneficial properties.

Algae have the particularity of creating molecules 🧑‍🔬 in their natural environment, also known as secondary metabolites. These metabolites are what interest us in natural and organic cosmetics because, once formulated into alginate—a cosmetic component—they enable numerous skin treatments.

Moisturizing, antioxidant, revitalizing, they help the skin maintain its radiance... algae are our best allies 💪! Because in addition to being 100% natural, their optimal compatibility makes them an assimilable and tolerable active ingredient for all skin types.

There are 4 main families of algae: red algae like Irish Moss or Chondrus crispus, for example, are used in cosmetics for dehydrated or dry skin; brown algae like Fucus spiralis are formulated in treatments for oily skin. Green algae and blue algae, in turn, enable formulas that help the skin maintain its vitality and radiance.

Within our Swiss laboratory of natural and holistic cosmetics, algae hold a prominent place across our different ranges. We particularly use the brown seaweed wakame in our Marine Scrub PHYTO 5, but also in our Perfection Cream Ageless La Cure 100% ORGANIC. We also use the highly valued seaweed known as Laminaria Digitata for our Algoderm Mask PHYTO 5, and green algae in our Oligo 5 Spray PHYTO 5.

Also known as algotherapy, the algae in our cosmetic skincare treatments are thus good for our skin and body, to be enjoyed without moderation!
