When we think of a face mask, the clay mask immediately comes to mind — the superstar of facial care and cocooning moments. Rightly so, clay is a powerful ally for our skin.
If clay is so appreciated in our skincare routines and facial care, it is above all because it is a 100% natural product 🌱. Clay is in fact an earth resulting from the erosion of hard rocks, and its virtues have been numerous and unrivalled for a very long time.
Clay is above all purifying; it helps absorb the skin's excess sebum as well as accumulated impurities. It is also a powerful remineraliser, as it is rich in minerals including magnesium, calcium, zinc and iron. Finally, clay is revitalising; it helps the skin regain its radiance once dead cells and impurities have been removed. The clay mask is therefore the essential gesture in any skincare routine for our face. But careful — to remain effective, it should not be applied more than once or twice a week to avoid drying out and irritating the skin. Another precaution: clay must always remain moist to be efficient. Letting it dry completely actually dries out our pores, achieving the opposite effect from the one desired.
Presented as a paste or powder, clay also comes in different colours, each corresponding to a skin type or condition. Here again, let's remain vigilant in its use to apply care suited to our skin. Purifying or hydrating? That is the primary question to ask before applying a clay mask. As for the rest, green clay, rich in minerals, will be more nourishing for example than red clay, which contains iron oxide and helps the skin regain its radiance.
